CASE #01
Where Light Lingers
How does light behave and manifest in everyday spaces as it shifts and
how does this affect colour and human presence?
About the Theme
Light does not appear all at once. It moves slowly through the city and leaves marks behind.
In everyday streets, light changes how places feel. It falls on walls, passes through windows, stretches across the ground, and briefly touches people as they move. When light shifts, colour shifts with it. Shadows appear and fade, shaping what we notice and what we miss.
The city itself does not change, but light changes how we see it.
Photographers are encouraged to observe where light stays a little longer, how colours become warmer or cooler, and how shadows add mood and meaning to simple scenes. These moments are often small and easy to overlook.
Each photograph becomes a record of how light, colour, and shadow quietly shape everyday life.

What You Might Photograph
This case is not about specific subjects, but about how light behaves within them. Here are some example situations to help guide your observation:
Everyday Urban Spaces:
Sunlight hitting a shopfront in the early morning
Fluorescent lights inside a small convenience store
Light filtering through stairwells, corridors, or car parks
Transitional Light Moments
Shadows stretching as the sun lowers
Mixed lighting from signage, headlights, and street lamps
- Neon or LED light altering skin tones or textures
Human Presence
A person briefly passing through a pool of light
- Faces partially lit, partially obscured
What Matters Most
It’s not what you photograph, but why you notice it.
Ask yourself:
What made me stop here?
How did the light change this moment?
What feeling does this light create?
There is no single way to interpret the case.
