CASE #03
What Catches Our Eye

Why do certain moments, scenes, or details draw our attention while countless others pass unnoticed?

About the Theme

The world is full of things to see. Most of them pass by unnoticed.

Attention is selective. We do not see everything, we notice what draws us in. Sometimes the reason is obvious. Sometimes it is impossible to explain.

This case investigates attraction, curiosity, instinct, and observation. Not the subject itself, but the reason we stopped to look. What catches our eye reveals what we value, what interests us, and how we move through the world.

Photographers are encouraged to follow their attention and to notice what pulls them in, what makes them pause, and what stays with them after they have walked away. There is no fixed subject. Only the act of looking, and the choice to keep what caught you.

How to Participate

  • Shoot using one or more of the three Investigation Partner films
  • Observe everyday moments and environment
  • Select images that respond to the case theme
  • Include a short written reflection with your submission
  •

Your interpretation matters as much as the image itself.

Submission Deadline: 7th October 2026

What You Might Photograph

This case is not about specific subjects, but about what pulls your attention—and why you stopped to look. Here are some directions to help guide your observation:

Moments That Stop You

  • A scene that makes you pause mid-step
  • Visual interruptions that break the flow of the everyday
  • Fleeting encounters you almost missed

Details Within the Everyday

  • Small elements hidden inside familiar scenes
  • Patterns or textures you keep returning to
  • Repeated observations of the same place or subject

What You Cannot Look Away From

  • Subjects that hold your gaze longer than expected
  • Unexpected encounters on ordinary routes
  • Details that feel personal, even when they are not yours

There is no right or wrong interpretation. Every photographer brings a different way of noticing.

You may submit:

  • Any moment, scene, or detail that caught your attention
  • Work shot on any of the three investigation partner films (Kodak Gold 200, Lomochrome Color ’92 Sun-kissed 400, CineStill BWXX)
